  • JOB OVERVIEW:

    AMEND, LLC is hiring a motivated Entry-Level Designer / Carpenter to join our team. This is a hybrid position for someone who wants to build a career that bridges design and hands-on construction. You’ll spend some weeks primarily at the computer producing design and drawing sets, and other weeks primarily in the field supporting carpentry and high-performance building work—depending on project phase and team needs.

    This role is ideal for new graduates who want real-world experience translating design intent into durable, buildable details. Training and mentorship are provided by our Construction Manager and the AMEND Team.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

    Design & Documentation (Office + Remote/On-Site as needed)

    • Create 2D and 3D models to support project design and planning

    • Assist with schematic design, design development, and construction details

    • Help prepare client presentations (graphics, drawings, model views, layouts)

    • Support internal coordination between design intent and field execution (details, sequencing, constructability)

    Field Carpentry (Job Sites Throughout Greater Bangor)

    • Assist with rough and finish carpentry tasks including: Framing, Siding, Window and door installation, Trim / finish carpentry, Air sealing and insulation detailing (high-performance building techniques)

    • Work under the direction of the Construction Manager to complete project tasks safely and correctly

    • Support job site setup, cleanup, material organization, and protection of finished work

    • Safely operate hand and power tools (training provided)

    WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Design or a related program that includes vector/CAD modeling

    • 6 months to 1 year of experience in construction, carpentry, or related work (or completion of trade school/apprenticeship).

    • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws, nail guns).

    • Ability to read basic measurements and use a tape measure accurately

    • Strong communication, reliability, and willingness to take direction

    • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation (travel up to ~1 hour)

    • SketchUp experience (preferred)

    • Familiarity with Revit, Rhino, and/or Adobe (plus)

    • Interest in high-performance construction practices and building science

    WORK HOURS:

    • This is a full-time position, typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (40 hours/week), with work taking place at various job sites throughout the greater Bangor, ME area with travel up to an hour away. Outdoor work in changing weather conditions is part of the role. We understand that life happens outside of work too. As a family-oriented company, we offer some flexibility in scheduling when possible and aim to support a healthy work-life balance for every team member.

    PAY & BENEFITS:

    • Competitive starting wage: $20–$30/hour, depending on experience

    • Paid on-the-job training and skill development

    • Annual reviews with opportunities for wage increases

    • Paid holidays and sick time after trial period
